EL TORCAL

One of the biggest surprises during our hikes in the area was undoubtedly the natural park “El Torcal de Antequera”. This park, full of extraordinary karst formations, is one of the most unique natural areas in the whole of Spain.

El Torcal de Antequera is located in the Sierra del Torcal mountain range in the north of the province of Málaga, between the towns of Antequera and Villanueva de la Concepción. The park has around 1171 hectares of land. It is occasionally called the pancake mountains, due to the different layers of rocks that seem to be piled up like a stack of pancakes. In 1929 the park was recognized as a protected area and recently El Torcal de Antequera was even declared world heritage by Unesco.

This deep gorge, the Tajo de Ronda, is what made Ronda famous.

EL CAMINITO DEL REY

El Caminito del Rey also called “the King’s path”, it’s a spectacular hiking route in the province of Malaga. A part of this walks directs you over a narrow path above a gorge. The cliffs are about 400 meters high.
